Vemana watched as his father would plant 18 of his 20 acres with his primary crop, such as peanuts, and with the last two of the acres, he would plant something different each time. Sometimes, it was the red pepper vegetable capsicum; other times it might be a unique kind of eggplant, like harabegan. The new crop would then be enthusiastically introduced to the 100 surrounding villages.
